Mr. Freeman's series on The Norman Conquest of England was beneficial to my research notes regarding amateur genealogy, and covers a wide scope of time. The writing style is a bit quaint, but the facts are very thoroughly covered, both historically and within families mentioned in the two volumes written by Mr. Freeman on this topic. His scholarly use of careful footnotes was keenly appreciated.
The Reign of William Rufus and the Accession of Henry the First in two volumes also by Edward Freeman proved invaluable in aiding my amateur genealogy.
