Ratings and reviews

So, I give this book a three for a practical reason. I'm going through the reviews, and I see things like, "Great vocabulary!" Though I am really loving this book, when I started it, it caught me by surprise on the rudimentary wording. It reminds me of when I started writing, when I wasn't as great with words as I am now. I also believe that it begins too ubruptly. It takes you by the throat and throws you down the fire escape with him, not knowing WHAT is going on, and it shocked me that I couldn't really keep up. Further in, you get used to the speed of progression, and I am really enjoying the book, after I put aside the fact that the same words will be seen repetitively, and there will be no variations of them. I think if it was worded a little bit differently, I will enjoy it better. I'm not trying to rain down on this book. It's a good book. Just hard to read after getting out of the first book in the A Game of Thrones series.

Too simple and unrealistic for my tastes. Twists and turns are predictable, main story basis is EXTREMELY under utilized. Kind of boring for a book about mind readers. Author skips over too much story, every so often leaving you feeling like you skipped a chapter of the book that you can't go back and read. Characters lack any depth, story is thin and patchy. Only because of the last few chapters was this even worth reading, the first 3/4 were extremely boring.

A very novel idea of perceivers. The beginning of the story is very interesting and it progresses at a breakneck speed. But I did not find the plot impressive enough. It is understood if some scenes are skipped, but in this story at some places it becomes unclear as to what is going on. Nevertheless it is a good bread for fiction lovers.

Author and journalist Jane Killick juggles a career working for BBC radio in the UK with her interest in science fiction and stories in the modern world with a twist. For many years, she also wrote for science fiction magazines about TV and film and has written several books on the subject, including Stasis Leaked Complete, which goes behind the scenes of the TV series Red Dwarf, and her books about Babylon 5, the Season-by-Season guides.

She currently lives the single life in Buckinghamshire, England and can be often heard reading the news on BBC Three Counties Radio.
