About the author

Nelson L. Dawson is the Editor of The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society. Previously he served as Director of Research and Interpretation for the Kentucky Historical Society and held other leadership positions in Kentucky history societies.

He earned his PhD at University of Kentucky and taught college-level history for 30 years. Dr. Dawson has published three previous books; he has served as editor and contributed numerous articles to US history journals.
