DESCRIPTION:

Victorian London: For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.

People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.

Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly "made" creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?

Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting.

I honestly wanted to like this book. It had so many things going for it, a strong smart female character, historical setting, and paranormal elements, but the main character is furiously annoying. She is suppose to be stubborn, but instead comes off as childish and stupid. The plot really doesn't go anywhere because of her for more than half the book. And when it does, everyone seems to magically like her even all she has done is make everyone's lives hell. I know she is suppose to be street smart but she is belligerent and crase. All budding relationships (friendship or romantic) make no sense to me because she is such a brat.

Wait a second! I read this on wattpad! I think...I later searched it for a reread but couldn't find it. Here it was! I don't know if the story was same or if some parts are changed but I just wanna say I enjoyed reading it. It felt like a thriller to me than a fantasy. It's been almost 2 years or more I think, Can't remember well but I do remember that the past me enjoyed it:) I'm giving three stars because it's been so long in the past I would give it a 4.

I've only recently discovered C.J. Archer's books for me and I like them quite a bit, although her stories develop extremely slowly. In this book it was slow as molasses, the story or characters aren't going anywhere and the hint at a romance is so awkwardly written that it is positively painful to read. I had to put the book down several times in order to prepare myself for the cringe worthy interactions between a very immature young adult main character and her psychopathic crush. SO hard to live through! And the ending leaves you utterly disappointed. Archer has a lot of great books but this is not one of them. I don't quite understand how she could squeeze 9 more books out of this story.
