I really enjoy shifter stories, so I couldn't pass up the chance at a free copy of this book. It was really an amazing story! Completely original, in pretty much all aspects. I'm not entirely sure what has caused the "scar" they were patrolling, but I may have missed the explanation in the beginning. I think that I may have misunderstood the type of book it was going to be, however… I was expecting some erotic encounters, and there were none. I did read through the book fairly quickly in the hopes of finding them, though. That's why it lost one star from me. But, perhaps my expectations shouldn't affect the rating at all!

Hale and Shane are out patrolling the rift when they stumble on rift scorpion tracks. Sam is out surveying again. She has a ranger with her. She's also an Earth Elemental but keeps that quiet. Then she and her guard run into a scorpion. Jake and Shane hear gunfire and run towards it to find the women ok. Hale's Wolf calls Sam their mate while he reminds him she's human and can't be. Meanwhile Sam needs to hide her witch self to keep under the radar of the government. While the pack are hunting the one time a month they can be wolf a scorpion attacks Hale. He's stung. The venom keeps a shifter from shifting. So now he needs to stay on Sam's land till he can shift back. Sam isn't too thrilled. It's dangerous. Too much chance of someone discovering she had magic. But Hale discovers her secret then she's almost attacked by an imp. He's Bally injured but she uses her earth magic to heal him in doing so she's formed a connection to him. This well-written and original first installment of the Highland Rift Pack series has the electrifying and enthralling atmosphere of fated mates, with a large dose of drama, rivalry, danger, and intense situations. All to ensure you have a very immersive experience in the paranormal world. This is more than 5 stars! I am eagerly anticipating the next installment in this captivating series. I will gladly follow this author.
