प्रत्येक व्यक्ति स्वयं अपने आपमें ही संघर्षरत है एक ओर यह दशेन्द्रियों में भोगासक्त होकर निरंतर विषयों का सुखानुभव कर रहा है। यही भोगासक्ति मूल रूप से परोत्पीड़न वृत्ति की जन्मदात्री है। दूसरी ओर जीव सच्चिदानंद ईश्वर का अंश होने के कारण स्वयं आनन्दमय है। अतएव अपने आत्मस्वरूप को पहचानकर वह स्वयं में रमण करने वाला आत्माराम बन जाता है। देहवाद एवं भोगासक्ति द्वारा जिस छलनावृत्ति का जन्म होता है उसी के द्वारा वह दूसरों के स्थान पर स्वयं को ही छल रहा है। इसे वह नहीं जान पाता। रावण भी शांतिस्वरूपा श्रीसीताजी का अपहरण करते हुए इसी भ्रान्ति का आखेट हुआ। वह यही नहीं जान सका कि इस अपहरण में वह स्वयं का विनाश आमन्त्रित कर रहा है। श्रीसीताजी तो जगन्माता हैं। व्यक्ति को उनकी आराधना पुत्ररूप में करनी चाहिये। किन्तु दशेन्द्रियवादी भोगासक्त होने के कारण जगज्जननी के प्रति भी वही दृष्टि रखता है। वह यह नहीं जान पाता कि वास्तविक शांति भोगों के परित्याग में है, न कि उनके ग्रहण में।
