This story follows a 17 year old girl who is forced into unpleasant circumstances by the government. She needs to navigate a world in which she is essentially powerless in her attempts to live a peaceful life. Unfortunately, the story relies heavily on clichés and the characterization is lackluster. The author does a pretty good job recreating the 1st person perspective of a teenager, but that means the protagonist is quite obnoxious. One thing the author did that was very interesting was she made her world treat her protagonist as though she was unimportant. Most 1st person novels treat their protagonist as important all the time, even when there isn't justification. This story doesn't do that, which is refreshing. This story has a prominent element of political commentary, but the way in which it is addressed in-story is pretty sophomoric. All in all, this book has a lot of shortcomings, but would probably be good for teenagers. If you are over 25, best look elsewhere.

This book was so amazing. It was full of suspense, drama, you were on the edge of your seat the entire time. What a great story line, ethical questions, and just great writing. I cannot wait for the remaining series to come out. This is when I wish the rest were already out because I'm disappointed i have to wait. What an amazing series. I have to say, this is one of my top favorites.

This is the 2nd best books in the series in my opinion. The 3rd book is my favorite. This book is full or action and tough choices. The plot is well thought out. This series is my favorite. I have read it multiple times.
