About this ebook

The Universal Servicebook contains information on a variety of popular tagging systems. Information has been compiled using data from our own workshop analysis and field experience (30 years experience in the E.A.S. industry) .

The aim of the manual is to cover many equipment types, therefore the information is of a concise nature, the manual assumes the user has a basic knowledge of electronics and has had a previous introduction to tagging systems. Each piece of equipment is presented in steps, consistent with those followed during an installation or major service.

This version of Universal Servicebook was first published in hardback in 2004, it has had some items edited for this 2013 ebook version.

I can highly recommend this to any engineer carrying out service/installation visits on eas tagging systems, it helps you identify the type of pedestals you are working on, provides all the information to set the system to a default setting - giving you the confidence to tweak the system for optimal performance, taking all the guess work out thus enabling you to provide a professional service to your customers, even better now that you can read it on your smartphone :-)

The sensible thing would be to book Peter Nutt to come and get your reluctant tagging system to do what it was designed to do, which is to detect tags: then you would be able to look over his shoulder and learn how it should be done. But; it looks like you're contemplating buying his "Universal Service book". I have just read it in it's entirety, and I can only say that it is astonishingly complete in its scope of EAS equipment(No pun intended). He covers every possible combination of equipment types within each manufacturer/distributors output. Although he claims that the book is not an installation guide there is enough information here to proceed with specifying and installing any of the the equipment described. The "Problem solving" chapter is particularly informative, which obviously comes from many years in the field: encountering the electrically hostile environment a tagging system has to cope with. If you're contemplating getting a problematic EAS system to work again, then you have to have this book.
