About this ebook

This morning, I was packing up lunches, ironing, putting on the laundry I should have done last night. Now my precious daughter is accused of murder.

When ten-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for a terrible crime, Maddy’s mother Juliet cannot believe it. How could her bright, joyful daughter be capable of such a thing?

As the small village community recoils in horror, the pressure of the tragedy blows Juliet and her sister’s         lives apart. And things get even worse when their daughters retreat into a self-imposed silence. Can anyone reach Maddy and discover the truth before her fate is sealed?

Juliet is crushed. Nothing will ever be the same for her darling girl. But she knows that to find out what really happened that day, she and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again…

The most unputdownable psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Silent Ones.

Maddy and Brianna are cousins ... both 10 years old... and both arrested for a terrible crime against an elderly woman who lives down the street. When they were picked up, both sets of clothes had blood splatter .. and neither of them are saying a word. Not to the police...and not to their parents. Juliet, Maddy's mother, just cannot fathom her daughter doing anything to hurt anyone else. Chloe, Brianna's mother, feels the same about her daughter. The police bring in Dana, a therapist, to see if she can coax the children to talk .. it's imperative they find some answers soon. The entire small village is up in arms and much damage is being done. Juliet's business is set on fire and everything destroyed. Chloe and Brianna live with their parents and the house is covered with graffiti and windows broken. And when the girls do begin to talk ... it rips the family apart even further. Juliet and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again … This is not a new author to me and she never disappoints. It's a well-written story of a dysfunctional family torn even further apart by decades old secrets and lies. I thought I had this one all figured out early ... but I was so far off track. There are twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. The ending was totally unpredictable and surprising. Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Psychological Thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Wow! what a compelling, captivating, terrifying and tense read. I must admit, that I went into this a little hesitant due to what the book is about, but I am so glad that I read it. I mean c’mon, it’s Kim Slater and you know that you are going to be in good hands, no matter how difficult the subject matter is. I always make sure that I have set aside plenty of time when reading Kim’s work, as I can guarantee that it is always a late night-early morning once I start one and this is definitely one of those books! Kim doesn’t waste any time and the reader is thrown in right from the get go, with a prologue so chilling, I still get goosebumps when I think about it. Kim sure does know how to get the readers attention and is so skilled in grabbing onto you tightly from the beginning and not letting you go until the final page. Kim’s writing style is also second to none. It is so engaging that you also feel apart of the story. The short snappy chapters also a make for an easy read, where each one is as enthralling as the next. While the plot of this book is very well put together, the subject matter of two ten year old cousins, Maddy and Brianna who are arrested following a horrific crime is just terrifying. It makes you question, what would you do if this was your child? How far would you go to protect them and yourself from the community that is out to crucify your family? It is hard to imagine that there could not be anything worse for a parent to face, but is made worse for Juliet and her sister Chloe by the fact the two girls are remaining silent. A backstory has also been created which takes the reader to the past, too when Juliet and Chloe were young girls, where a tragic event shaped the different relationship they have with their parents and how that has effected them in the present as well as with each other. A divide has been created and you feel the pain of one sister as she struggles alone when she should have the support of her all of her family during the most difficult time in their life. The past is integral to the story in the present and it all comes together nicely with a satisfying twist for the finale. The characters are a mixed bag of likeable and unlikable ones. Kim does a great job in creating tension between Juliet and Chloe and showing the cracks within their family unit and where loyalites lie. I resonated with Juliet the most out of everyone and felt her pain not just with what she has to face with what her child may have done, but also coming to terms with the lack of support from the rest of her family. All up this is a great read. Kim has a created a chilling read that will stay with you long after you finish it. Thank-you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and K.L. Slater for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Silent Ones which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Dont waste your money. Nothing about this book is thrilling. might be just about the most boring novel I have ever read. it barely mentions the crime, and doesn't really give any information about the crime. if you want to read about the parents of accused criminals bickering for 300 pages then, it's the perfect book for you. if you want a thriller look elsewhere.
