This Obscure Academy was a bit different from the others, and focused a great deal on loss and grief. I very much still enjoyed the MCs and their interactions, as well as those with their roommates, it just lacked the spark of "magic" I've come to associate with OA. Jack and Rhea bonded over shared losses and developed a friendship base from there. As Rhea was catching her footing again, Jack's world was showing signs of cracking. She was able to support him, much as he did her when she joined the counseling group. With eachother's guidance, could they see themselves into the next phase of their friendship too? I ended up really enjoying this book. It may have started a bit slower than other OA books, but it gained speed and had a great conclusion. I received a gift copy of this book and volunteered my review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

This was a really enjoyable story & while it does deal with recovering from the loss of loved ones it still has plenty of lighthearted moments to keep the mood of the story up. I enjoyed getting to know Rhea better after having met her previously. I also liked Jack's character a lot as well. I look forward to reading about Jack's roommate Rupert in the next book Mixing Drinks For Tipsy Weasels. I received a free ARC of this book & am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a very sweet book and my first foray into the Obscure Academy series. The emotions shown by both characters were raw and realistic as they dealt with their grief about losing loved ones. Some heartbreaking scenes occurred with Jack's 13-year-old brother, Eddy, but the care Laura Greenwood took when describing things was evident. Grief affects everybody in different ways.
