About this ebook

The Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of Bloom County and Opus delivers a humorous and heartwarming illustrated novel for kids and dog-lovers of any age!

"Breathed, through words and lush illustrations, tells a story that will charm many readers."--The New York Times

Sam the Lion is actually a priceless dachshund, bred to be a show dog. More important, he is Heidy's best friend and she needs one like never before. Living with her reclusive uncle is hard, but Sam has a way of making her feel soft and whole. Until the day Sam is framed by the jealous poodle Cassius, and is cast out by Heidy's uncle, alone on the wild streets, where he is roughed up by a world he was not bred for. Sporting a soup ladle for a leg, Sam befriends other abandoned dogs and journeys all the way to the Westminster Dog Show, where his plan for revenge on Cassius takes an unexpected turn when he and Heidy spot each other after years of being apart.

Pulitzer Prize winner and New York Times bestselling author Berkeley Breathed's first illustrated novel is a heartwarming and humorous ode to the unconditional and lasting love we and our pets share.

Sam the lion shows up at the airport and saw his “to-be” owner, Mrs Nutbush. Hiedy a girl who is coming to live with her uncle saw sam in a cage , she opens it for him. He hicthed a ride to her uncle's . when they got there they entered in a dog contest and they won. Mrs. Nutbush saw Sam and claimed him as hers. She was dressed like a gopher. Sam called four words “fedral express guyss then gopher.” the dogs chased Mrs. Nutbush. Sam got framed of hurting the baby by Cassius , the other house dog. And they got in a fight. Then Sam lost a leg. He was taken to a lab to be tested and he helped with an escape. He was saved by a man that he saved from a big buff guy then helped him win a bet. Sam and his dog friends played a few pranks on the dogs in the contest. Now it's just Heidy and Cassius. Sam and Cassius got in a fight and they fell from a balcony. Will Sam survive the fall? Will the “flawed dogs “ get adopted? This book is a weird book. Sam the lion iost a leg and it was replaced by a ladle. It was also very interesting. Sam died and another dog brought him back to life. This book had some very strange characters. The dogs have different flaws. Like a dog named o'l blue. This book had funny parts. the “flawed dogs” shaved and decorated the other dogs in the contest . This book had spme crazy actions. The dogs and the lab rats in the lab were escaping. Sam had a rubber glove filled with dried glue on his nose. He opened the gates with it. This book had an amazing battle. “Sam “ called heidy but he didn't hear her. But Cassius did and in her voice , the one he'd learn and love during the last years, the poodle what he had dreaded. She still loved the dachshund. Far more than she ever loved him. Cassius ran after Sam . He knew what he should have done years before. He had to kill Sam. This book had some creativity. Sam and his friends dressed up as Mrs. Nutbush so he could enter the contest. If you like fantasies about animals then you like this book. If you liked this book then you you should read black beauty then you should read this one. I myself, did not like this book very much. I would not recommend this book to people who do not like fantasy. I would rate this book as a two. Epi

The illustrations in the eBook format are not in color! Very misleading because buyers are not told this ahead of time. Unfortunately, this diminishes an otherwise perfectly entertaining story.
