About this ebook

From the internationally bestselling authors who brought you the Krinar Chronicles comes a captivating tale of intrigue, love, and danger in a world where sorcery is entwined with science . . .

Once a respected member of the Sorcerer Council and now an outcast, Blaise has spent the last year of his life working on a special magical object. The goal is to allow anyone to do magic, not just the sorcerer elite. The outcome of his quest is unlike anything he could’ve ever imagined – because, instead of an object, he creates Her.

She is Gala, and she is anything but inanimate. Born in the Spell Realm, she is beautiful and highly intelligent – and nobody knows what she’s capable of. She will do anything to experience the world . . . even leave the man she is beginning to fall for.

Augusta, a powerful sorceress and Blaise’s former fiancée, sees Blaise’s deed as the ultimate hubris and Gala as an abomination that must be destroyed. In her quest to save the human race, Augusta will forge new alliances, becoming tangled in a web of intrigue that stretches further than any of them suspect. She may even have to turn to her new lover Barson, a ruthless warrior who might have an agenda of his own . . .

I enjoyed The Sorcery Code as an audio book. With a unique take on magic, clearly differentiated characters, and a plot that carefully builds to a dramatic climax, The Sorcery Code takes the listener on a fantastic journey. Several interesting metaphors for our own society are gently embedded in the storyline. Magic that works like computer code, artificial intelligence, abuse of power, and the responsibility those in power have to the common man explore questions pertinent to modern societies. One major theme the book explores is that “with intelligence comes benevolence”. Discussed from multiple perspectives, both intelligence and benevolence clearly don’t come for free. Intelligence is subject to the foibles of man and benevolence may not have a fairy tale ending. Both are clouded by individual experience, bias, and circumstances. The characters are well-rounded and three-dimensional. They all have qualities that are easy to admire, as well as fatal flaws, making it difficult to fully love the protagonists and hate the antagonists. Intricate plot twists add depth and interest to the story, leaving the reader eager to find out what happens next. The first in a fantasy series, I look forward to reading future books and exploring this world further. Emily Durante is a talented reader. She keeps an excellent pace and provides wonderful character voices. The quality of the audio recording is excellent: clear and without extraneous noises.

Set in world divided between the sorcerers and commoners, it is the story of a kind hearted and intelligent sorcerer Blaise who wants to help the people of his realm. In his pursuit he creates Gala, a beautiful and enigmatic being, who may look human but has the, yet unexplored, ability to tap into the magical realm better than any sorcerer or sorceress of the day. She is the key to the salvation of countless people, if only she could comprehend the full extent of her powers. As a reader/listener I really enjoyed experiencing the world through Gala’s eyes, for whom every moment is a fresh opportunity to learn something new and enjoy the beauty of the physical realm. Gala is an amazing character who can empathize with both people and animals. . All characters are well thought of and all have their own motives, fears and aspirations that drive their actions. With every page that I read, the story became more and more complex until I was left glued to my seat with a barely controlled curiosity to know what happened next. I like the fact that t

First of all - WOW! This is an amazing story. If you are looking for a world full of magic, mystery and epic battles (with just the right amount of romance and jealous ex-lovers mixed in), you NEED to listen to The Sorcery Code. The fantasy world that has been created here is amazingly complete. The story follows the beautiful and mysterious Gala, who is simply trying to understand her sudden consciousness, and the world she finds herself in. Along with her brilliant creator Blaise, with a dark past of his own, and some old friends, they find themselves being thrown into an incredible journey, being tailed by those who see Gala's incredible powers as a threat instead of a gift... From the telling of the overthrow of the old ruling class right down to the basics of sorcery code, I felt like I was a true observer into a living, breathing world, experiencing everything right along next to Gala - exploring a new and exciting land for the first time! Emily Durante as the narrator had me hanging onto every word! I love the way that she jumps into each character, giving each one a unique voice. I was especially impressed with her ability to switch between each different personality.
