About this ebook

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES AND INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

**THE BOOK THAT STARTED IT ALL, NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES**

“Eerie, beautiful, and devastating.” —Chicago Tribune

“A stealthy hit with staying power. . . . thriller-like pacing.” —The New York Times

Thirteen Reasons Why will leave you with chills long after you have finished reading.” —Amber Gibson, NPR’s “All Things Considered”

You can’t stop the future.

You can’t rewind the past.
The only way to learn the secret . . . is to press play.

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah's voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why.

Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah's pain, and as he follows Hannah’s recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever.

WARNING: this book unfortunately and unrealistically makes suicide look like a game. And while I did feel bad for Hannah (who at times came off a bit self centered), I felt worse for the people she blamed (especially poor Jessica) because that itself was very contradicting to message of the story. However, I give credit to Asher for the idea of this book. Thirteen Reasons Why is an excellent concept and the moral of the story is quite clear: your actions--at first glance tiny--can impact others dramatically.

Everyone loves and hates books for different reasons. First off, the reason the main male character is on these tapes is obvious from the get go, and second...this was very whiney, teenage angst. I felt that most of her reasons were terrible and so menial. But this is a book about a character that lacks confidence and thus kills herself without trying to make anything better so *shrug* to each their own

I think, with the hundreds of other kids at that school or even the posibility of going to another school, choosing to kill herself because of the repeated lies selfish and ignorant kids told.. . is dumb. She should have stood up for herself, said they were lies and found other friends. Drop them. Instead she soaked up more and more of their wicked ways as if they were all she ever wanted and needed and she should sunmit to their failings as her own. They lied she died , she didn't defend herself so everyone else believed it. She should have told them all that taped stuff then droped their asses as toxic ex friends.
