About this ebook

Three unlikely friends do everything in their power to stop a war that's killing thousands.

When seventeen-year-old Gertie leaves New York to study abroad in Athens, she learns that vampires and demigods are real and unwittingly becomes a catalyst to an uprising led by Dionysus, lord of the vampires.

In this final installment, Gertie, Jeno, and Hector struggle to bring a peaceful resolution to the war in Athens, but any success they make comes at great cost. How many more people must die for freedom and justice? The teens quickly learn that nothing is fair in love and war. Sometimes even love requires a terrible price.

I now have a major book hangover and I am so sad the series is over. I’m glad there’s other series that tie in but still. This was a great ending. I suggest if you listen to the audio not to do so while driving. Otherwise, you will be slamming on brakes because of the massive discoveries you never saw coming. And boy is there a doozy. Gertie is very clever, especially for her age. She manages to outmaneuver the gods and keep some what of peace. The action never stops and there is no boring spots. I wish so much that the author would write a book for Jeno and his love of 30 years. It could even be called a prequel if nothing else lol. If you like audiobooks, try this one. With the first one I wasn’t crazy about the narrator. Her voice was great for telling the story but the character voices sucked, especially the males. It was like a computer or monotone at times. And they mostly sounded the same. The females weren’t as bad. In this book, however, she did so much better. She has improved greatly. Well done.

Vampire Ascension is the 3rs book in the Vampires of Athens series. This series is amazing and I definitely recommend that you read books 1 & 2 before reading this book. In this book, Gertie and her friends have many adventure while trying to stop the vampire rebellion and get the gods to treat the vampires fairly. The plot is interesting and flows smoothly with lots of twists and turns. Some of the surprising twists will blow your mind (especially when Gertie learns more about her family). The characters in this book are very well developed and also very relatable. I love the strong friendships that they have and how they are always willing to risk everything for each other. Gertie, Jeno, and Hector have an amazing friendship and truly care about each other. And I liked that Klaus and Nina were involved in the adventures in this book. I don't want to give to many details because I hate giving spoilers, but I can tell you that I loved this book and I highly recommend it.

This fast paced, action intensive story was a great conclusion to Pohler’s Vampires of Athens trilogy. I love the mix of vampires and Greek mythology. Pohler’s unique twist on both, bringing them together in such a unique manner creates a fantastic backdrop for the world that she’s created. I thoroughly enjoyed the different looks at the Greek Pantheon, the way that she keeps true to the Greek myths, while also giving them a twist. The message of accepting our differences, whatever they may be, was quite poignant. Pohler’s world and character building continue throughout this novel, without regurgitating what we’ve learned in previous novels. I love how her larger than life descriptions continue to build the unique pockets of the world that her characters inhabit while also depending on the true geography of our planet. The characters also continue to grow with their adventures. I love how they stay who they are yet their understanding of the world around them and of the individuals around them grows by leaps and bounds. Gertie’s need to stand up for what’s right, regardless of the personal consequences was fantastic. The original songs in the novel also add to the story. Not only do the lyrics give you a peek into who Hector is on the inside, but they also set the tone for certain scenes. Pohler has definitely created a YA novel (and series) that will be loved by readers of all ages. The unique blend of the paranormal with Greek mythology is breathtaking and will leave you dying for more. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
