 The MSMEs have attained a significant group in terms of their number, employment investment, output and exports. However, these units suffer from various problems. In the light of this background, the present study has been taken up to highlight the problems of MSME units of Guntur district. In Andhra Pradesh as it is learnt that they have been suffering from many problems on several fronts such as production, marketing, labour, finance etc.

In fact, the performance of these units has been for better had they been free from these problems. The study is largely based on the primary data collected from MSMEs of different industrial Estates and Auto Nagar of Guntur District. The study has been divided into seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the role development and problems of MSME Sector. The second chapter describes the objectives of the study and the methodology followed. The third chapter outlines the growth and performance of MSME in the Indian scenario, Andhra Pradesh Scenario and Guntur scenario. The fourth chapter presents the sickness of MSMEs. The fifth chapter presents in a case study on development of MSMEs in Guntur District. The sixth chapter deals with the problems of sample needs in the Guntur District. The seventh chapter deals the findings and conclusions drawn from the study, besides suggestions made to MSMEs, policy makers and financial institutions to enable them play their respective roles in resolving the various problems faced by MSMEs.

 Dr. Maturi Balakrishna Rao is Managing Director of Maturi Plastics & Engg. Pvt. Ltd., and Founder of Maturi Group of Companies, Guntur. Now it is on glorious Silver Jubilee Year, and achieving heights in plastics and flexible packaging industry with state of art facilities. He is a BE graduate and holds an MBA from Acharya Nagarjuna University. Doctor of Philosophy in faculty of Commerce and Business Administration from Acharya Nagarjuna University. His areas of specialization are Marketing and Human Resource Management. His Research interest include Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Entrepreneurship Development and Marketing Management. He is President of Plastic Manufacturers’ Association, Andhra Pradesh. He is a Member of Ministry of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Govt. of India (State Level Consultative Committee). He is a Member of District Vigilance Committee, Food Advisory Committee, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. He is a Charted President, Navyandhra Plastic Manufacturers’ Association, Guntur. He is a Member, Autonomous Body Committee, Dept. of Business Administration, Narasaraopet Engg. College, Narasaraopet. In addition he is a Member of Indian Council of Business Education, Bangalore. Dr. Talluri Sreekrishna is Associate Professor in the Department of Management Sciences, R.V.R&J.C. College of Engineering, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. He has 22 years of teaching experience at the Post Graduate level. Dr. Sreekrishna holds an MBA from Acharya Nagarjuna University, M.Phil., and Ph.D., in the area of Management Science, from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad under the guidance of Professor N.Vijayaratnam, Emeritus Professor, Dept. of Commerce & Business Administration, Acharya Nagarjuna University. In addition he qualified State Level Eligibility Test for Lecturership in the area of Business Management. He has published a number of articles in National and International Journals and presented Papers at National and International Level Seminars/ Conferences. In addition he attended Training Programmes and Workshops funded by Government Agencies. Under his Guidance four Ph.D.’s were awarded. His interested areas are Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Business Management, Management Science, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management and International Marketing Management.
