When a new installment of Simone Leigh’s Mastering the Virgin series arrives I pounce on it immediately. Target is the latest in this series and, as usual with each new one, I am convinced this is Simone Leigh’s best to date! Here are a couple of the things I loved best about this one. May be some teensy spoilers ahead. As we know, to everyone’s delight, both Charlotte and Beth are pregnant. But to Charlotte’s chagrin, she is experiencing many of the irritating side effects of pregnancy, and she responds as I would expect for Charlotte. She resists buying (and, omg!--wearing) maternity clothes. The onerous trips to the bathroom every 20 minutes are crazy-making. And she questions her attractiveness, appalled by her preggo weight and ungainliness. Also, as recalled from the previous book, The Triad seeks closer emotional and physical ties, as a unit of five is slowly but happily developing! Simone’s characters are always compelling and all so relatable. When it comes to exploring and expressing feelings, her characters are usually very adept. All but James, that is. At times, he muses privately over his feelings toward Charlotte. But since the unhappiness of his previous marriage and divorce, he seems to have kept a tight rein on any feelings that might bring anguish. In his mind, he prefers to keep it simple: he is Charlotte’s Dom and Master, and that should be enough. In Target, though, his heart seems to have found its way a little more. In my favorite quote from the entire book, James says to Charlotte, “I am yours. And I have been since the day I saw a pair of green eyes in an auction catalogue.” Well, now I’m more in love with James than ever. (Sorry, Charlotte!) In typical Simone-fashion, there are also some suspenseful twists and hairpin turns in Target. This book does end on a cliffhanger. I’m back to nail-biting worry, this time over Charlotte and her baby. I can only hope the next book will come soon! I highly recommend Target. 5 Stars!

This is an intriguing story that is split into two parts. Klempner is off in Thailand trying to shut down the human trafficking trade now that he’s a reformed person. This leaves his daughter Charlotte back home with her husbands as she adapts to her body changing due to her pregnancy. But what happens when she’s alone at the hospital after a check-up? A new threat has appeared, and no-one knows who or why. If that’s not enough, we then end on a cliffhanger! This is a brilliant story and one that could be started with this book but one that would be enjoyed far more if the previous books were read so that all of the main characters are easily identified, and their relationships known. Really wish I could give this more than the max. 5 stars.
