Empowered: Agent

The Empowered

Book 1
Dale Ivan Smith
14

The world sings to me but I shut it out, because my parole forbids me from using my power.

I went to prison because I didn’t want to join the Hero Council, become one of the so-called “good guys” and give up my freedom. I just wanted a place where I could be free, with other Empowered “renegades.” My friends died trying to be free, but I was captured and sentenced to Special Corrections.

I just turned twenty-one and been paroled. But a gang wants to use my power for crime, threatening my family when I refuse. A secretive government agency gives me a choice—go back to prison for life, or work for them, and infiltrate a dangerous criminal group.

Not only is my freedom at stake, but the lives of my grandmother, my sisters, and thousands of others are on the line.

Superhero, alternate history, supernatural suspense, paranormal, and urban fantasy.

About the author

A life-long resident of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Dale Ivan Smith has his mother to thank for his love of science fiction and fantasy. When he was five, he glimpsed the cover of a paperback sci-fi novel she was reading and was immediately interested. (It had a giant radioactive spider on the cover.) When he was fifteen, she loaned him her collection of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Barsoom novels and he devoured them in short order.

He got into trouble in grade school for sneaking off to the library during class, so naturally he wound up working as a librarian for the Multnomah County Library system in Portland, Oregon.

He's been writing fiction since he was a kid. He's had stories published in Perihelion Science Fiction, Everyday Fiction, 10Flash Quarterly, and on the Toasted Cake podcast. The Empowered is his first novel series, beginning with Empowered: Agent.

When he isn't writing or reading fantasy and science fiction, he's playing board games, practicing yoga, and obeying his feline overlords.

She must feed off sinners to survive. But to feed is to sin, and to sin, is to be punished.

Misa Fairchild is a detective in the screwed up city of Saint Helios. She has a secret she’s kept since the day she was born. A secret that haunts her every step and breath.

She’s an Arc Angelus, a top-tier predator who must feed off sinners to survive. If the Government knew what she was, they’d kidnap her and brainwash her for their Arc Program.

Every day, she battles with her hunger as she hides among the police, using her contacts to find sinning Angelus so she can feed off them to live. She has no option but to kill – she has to keep her niece alive, and this is the cost of survival in this tortured world.

Her partner is Farley Jones, a man who lives behind a mask. A man who lost his humanity and kindness the day his family were killed in an Arc attack. He’s dedicated his life to tracking those monsters down, and he’s never given an Angelus quarter.

Farley and Misa are thrust together when a string of murders within the police force draws Internal Affairs into Saint Helios, and hot on their heels is Army Intelligence. The Government, it seems, is looking for something.

Once upon a time, Misa knew her heart around Farley, but that starts to change. And as it does, it draws her further into danger she can't afford. She tries to protect him, but it will come at a cost.

As forces align against them, Misa must kill to protect, but in doing so, she is unlocking something within herself that she can't hope to understand. A process that will change everything….

Hell’s Angel is an Urban Fantasy serial sure to please fans of Odette C. Bell’s The Last Queen.
