Upon retiring from her career as a psychiatrist, Diane Schetky went from writing books on forensic psychiatry to writing poetry, which appealed to her because of its economy of words. She honed her skills at the Summer Writing Programs offered by her alma mater, Sarah Lawrence College. She published her first book of poetry, Poems on Loss, Hope and Healing in 2009, which came out of her own experiences with loss and her insights gained as a Hospice volunteer. She has lived in Maine for many years and summers on Prince Edward Island.
