About this movie

True crime novelist Ellison Oswald (Ethan Hawke) is so desperate to repeat the success of his first book that he moves his family into a home that served as the setting of a brutal murder. But instead of inspiration, Ellison finds a box of mysterious home movies in the attic that seem to point to unspeakable terrors -- ones that could threaten his entire family.

If you don't know who King Diamond or Ethan Hawke is, that's fine, you shouldn't know about this film either. It's borrowed parts throughout and poorly executed them. The iPhone used everywhere ( a sure sign of a lacking film ) and never materializes into anything new or exciting. All of which really sucks for struggling, yet good actors like James Ransone who was a favorite character of mine from 'The Wire' and Vincent D'Onofrio, who has talent beyond belief but has never found a good writer/director to harness it being his best roll in the original M.I.B. The movie sometimes tries to feel like David Fincher's Se7en, and has the ability to work off of that, if it wasn't for extremely poor lighting and lame audio, giving the poor editor nothing to work with. If you like watered-down, horribly directed and terribly implausible writing, you'll love this film. I scare myself more the morning when I look in the mirror after a night of hard drinking.

I'm a longtime horror movie fan, and I have to agree with the other comments about this movie being truly scary. If you're a fan of the horror movie that are realistic, no over the top effects, and a "raw" feel to them, then you'll like this one. It brings in the now-popular theme of using technology/monitors as a medium for all things evil, but it's definitely not like The Ring or any of the others. Ethan Hawke's acting is superb, and the plot, though simple, works well with the horror. Easily the best horror movie since Insidious.

I was wondering if it was possible I would waste my money on another "scary" and well I did. Nothing at all scary about this movie. Sure the demon was scary looking but he lacked a certain sinister about him..no pun intended. He didn't do anything worthy of being a demon. You can look scary all day but unless youre truley evil it has no effect. Unless you're easily scared. Do yourself a favor and not watch this.
