This is a powerful and compelling film. Made by one of the participants Kristen DiAngelo, American Courtesans lifts a curtain on the world of escorts that is fascinating and emotional. 11 sex workers, some of their family members and a few customers reveal how they entered and survive in a world shielded by law and custom from the rest of America. None complain or bemoan their position. They just tell their tales in unscripted and unvarnished truth. This is a movie all should see and think about.

I was surprised that a documentary could capture my attention so completely. It thought this would be a movie where the escorts bemoaned their lot or tried to show how tough they really were. But no these women let it all hang out. They told the truth both good and bad...took responsibility and pride in what they had done. They didn't ask for sympathy but only to be heard. It shows much that these women had families who accepted them and were proud of them. It shows much that they have found a place. It would be nice if society would make a place for them as well. American Courtesans had my heart and my head throughout the film. I hope everyone has the interest to watch it and the courage to take it to heart.
