Directed by Neil Jordan (Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, The Company of Wolves) and starring Gemma Arterton (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Byzantium is an erotic horror fantasy that takes vampire mythology to a new level of modern terror. Upon the windswept shores of a desolate coastal town stands the Byzantium guesthouse. After years of being abandoned, its doors are about to be opened again by the predatory and seductive Clara (Gemma Arterton), who plans on turning the hotel into a bordello, and her young and introverted daughter, Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan). But these mysterious women have a dark secret that goes back 200 years and is about to reach its ungodly and deathly climax.

Original and rather dark take on the theme. Not for those who like their vampires to sparkle but well worth a watch if you, like me, you don't!

When I first heard about this I didn't like the sound of it, but when I heard Gemma Arterton was in it and that she plays a mother of a sixteen year old I knew I had to get it. I wasn't disappointed at all, this film by passes the twilight films. Great characters, story line and the people who played the characters all together make it the best film I've seen in years.

I'd love to add this to my movies collection, but I don't want to "rent it"!
