About this movie

According to legend, the Candyman was an 18th century slave who was savagely beaten to death on the orders of a local landowner whose daughter he had fallen in love with. He takes revenge upon their descendants and anyone who refuses to believe in his existence, he's a nightmare that refuses to go away... New Orleans, during the Mardi Gras, and therapist Annie Tarrant uncovers the terrifying secrets of her family's past which link her to the Candyman in a way she would never dare imagine. Carelessly repeating his name five times, he makes a horrifying appearance, wreaking mayhem and brutal murder in his wake. Will Anne survive the evil return of the Candyman?

The first Candyman is a great film that addresses urban legend and racial tension in a creatively interesting way. It is one of the best horror films to come out of the 90s. It had great acting from Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen. I recommend it to any fan of horror cinema. The follow up does offer more history into the character of the Candyman with the back story and also features another great performance by Tony Todd... but the story and acting from the female lead is a step down.
