About this movie

Casablanca: easy to enter, but much harder to leave, especially if you're wanted by the Nazis. Such a man is Resistance leader Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), whose only hope is Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a cynical American who sticks his neck out for no one, especially Victor's wife Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman), the ex-lover who broke his heart. Ilsa offers herself in exchange for Laszlo's transport out of the country and bitter Rick must decide what counts more - personal happiness or countless lives hanging in the balance. This hilarious film holds up, in all but one regard; it's message. The film is allegorical, it's about how the US should take a stand and participate in WWII. Now, the US feels it has a right to the whole planet. It's infecting the planet with it's guns and it's culture. As perfect as it is, we need an anti-Casablanca to balance it out. For the good of the rest of the world ethnicities.

Seeing the film over and over again, year after year, I find it never grows over-familiar. It plays like a favorite musical album; the more I know it, the more I like it.
