About this movie

DANGER CLOSE follows freelance female war reporter Alex Quade and her mission to tell “soldiers' stories” during a series of unprecedented embeds with both Conventional Forces and US Special Operations Forces (SOF) at the height of the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Alex is bound and determined to compete the mission, even when on one airborne assault and ensuing rescue attempt, she nearly loses her life trying to tell the stories of these Heroes. During one highly-classified combat mission in Iraq, she would embed with a Green Beret A Team that had just lost their Combat Engineer, Green Beret SSG Rob Perelli. When an injured Alex ends up back in the States to rehab and prepare to redeploy, little does she know just how pivotal her redeployment would become. Through a series of compelling events and a fated meeting with Rob Pirelli’s family, her return to Iraq turns into the mission of a lifetime.

Directors David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud team up with freelance war reporter Alex Quade for their latest documentary, Danger Close. In the documentary, they use footage shot by Quade as she made her way across Iraq and back to Combat Outpost Pirelli to honor the man who built it, Staff Sgt. Robert Pirelli. The film offers exciting sequences, like an early 2007 combat mission, as well as more sentimental ones, like interviews with Pirelli’s family. The bravery and empathy exhibited in the film stuck with me long after watching it. I highly recommend Danger Close to any fans of military documentaries or just people looking for a heartwarming story.

Danger Close is outstanding! It's an engaging and heroic film that showcases award-winning journalist Alex Quade's journey through dangerous terrain to rediscover fallen soldier Rob Pirelli's compost that he built while in service. The documentary is full of uncensored, raw footage that Quade herself shot with a point-and-shoot camera to give the real and authentic story. Danger Close is the most recent addition to the Heroes of Valor Collection trilogy and does not disappoint. Along with the front row seat that Quade’s footage provides, there are some heart-warming moments where the soldiers speak about their fallen comrade Sgt. Rob Pirelli. Alex Quade makes it her mission to rediscover Pirelli’s Combat Outpost to give his family closure and let them know that it still exists. Some of my favorite scenes were when Quade talked with Pirelli’s family and they shared their memories about him. This film is honest, sheds a light on our soldiers’ sacrifices and is definitely worth the watch.

Danger Close uses raw footage to take viewers overseas to the combat zones our troops work in. Journalist, Alex Quade promises the family of fallen Staff Sgt. Robert Pirelli she will travel to the safe haven he built in Iraq to uphold his legacy and bring them closure. After extensive training, Quade, with the help of Special Forces Units, sets off on the dangerous journey to Combat Outpost Pirelli. Raw footage of combat and interviews with Quade and Pirelli’s family combine to show viewers the bravery our troops emit, the powerful legacies they deserve to leave behind, and the love of a family that has endured it all.
