About this movie

In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) will stop at nothing to preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium – but that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means they can. Max (Matt Damon) agrees to take on a life threatening mission, one that could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

To put it bluntly, this film is a leftist's fantasy-wet-dream. The political message is in no way whatsoever subtle. I'll sum up this film using some cliches this film soaks itself in: The villains = white, rich, French-speaking wine tasters. The heroes = everybody with brown skin (except Damon). The heroes just want free health care, while the villains want to keep the brown-skins off their lawns. This film should have been a comedy...it is incredibly stupid and stereoypical. Jodie Foster is wasted in this

This movie has every cliche in the book. Bad story, repetitive film score, predictable characters. Do no waste your time or money. Found myself looking at my phone more than the movie. As great as the directors previous film "District 9" was this film doesn't even come close. And how stupid do you think your audience is... wow everyone on Elysium is fair haired and white but everyone in the slums of earth is some kind of "minority" except for ...oh I don't know... the main character!!!!! If you want to make a movie about inequality, maybe you should consider giving the main role to an actor who belongs to a race you feel is being marginalized.

Elysium is a great example of how to take an interesting story idea and bury it in a bad movie. The basic story would have made a good movie. I didn't expect much from Matt Damon ... but Jodie Foster? I would say her talent was wasted on this movie but she apparently left it at home the day she shot her scenes. It's a pity though. Her character could've been the most interesting in a well written screen play.
