Darkness has descended over the northwestern town of Cold Rock. One by one, its children are disappearing. They leave behind neither clues nor credible witnesses, but instead a legend, a story cloaked in shadows passed from neighbor to neighbor ... And with it, a building sense of terror which threatens to devour what's left of the community itself. Superstitious locals talk of "The Tall Man," a mysterious figure who takes the children away, never to be seen again. But Julia Denning (Jessica Biel) has no time for legends or superstitions. A nurse doing her best for the emotionally distraught and economically devastated former mining town, she tries instead to preserve a semblance of normality both at work and at home. Until terror enters her own front door. Waking up in the middle of the night, she races to her child's bedroom, only to discover an empty bed -- and a hulking specter in the downstairs doorway who steals off into the darkness with her boy (Jakob Davies). As Julia follows in pursuit, she will stop at nothing and will risk everything to save him. Joined by determined investigator, Lt. Dodd (Stephen McHattie) and the child's local sheriff (William B. Davis), the chase is on and with it the quest for answers: Who is "The Tall Man"? What has become of the children? Soon, the town of Cold Rock will have the answers it so desperately seeks, answers that will shake the community to its core. A suspense-filled thriller like no other, THE TALL MAN mines a corrosive world of fear and terror before ultimately revealing its own unimaginable truth.
Climate change has turned parts of the American Midwest into a desert. The world economic recession is in its thirtieth year. In an attempt to erase deficit and improve productivity the government has legislated the deportation of all unproductive citizens. In the name of fairness and transparency a Federal Government agency known as the Humanity Bureau has been established to investigate and make selections based on a rating system. Citizens wishing to appeal their exile to a colony known as New Eden are given twenty-four hours to plead their case. An impartial case worker is sent to investigate and decide their fate. NOAH KROSS (Nicolas Cage) is a studious government employee fast tracked for promotion. In the drought stricken farm community, Noah is sent to adjudicate the appeal of single mother RACHEL WELLER (Sarah Lind) and her young son LUCAS (Jakob Davies). Rachel is at wits’ end. She desperately needs a second chance, but Noah and his superior ADAM WESTINGHOUSE (Hugh Dillon) know the truth. All Humanity Bureau verdicts are final and Rachel’s fate was sealed long before Noah arrived to spin the government’s illusion of hope and salvation. After a random accident, Noah begins to question his role in the bureaucracy. Knowing the unjust fate of the innocent boy, Kross sets off to save the lives of the mother and child and to expose the truth about the Humanity Bureau’s secrets once and for all. On a dust choked acreage where dignity departed with the last long forgotten rain, a fatherless boy and a resilient woman with secrets of her own challenge Noah to be a better man.
