Great film, it deserves the prizes it won. Gentle in the approach to Alex, gorgeous landscape shootings, excellent storytelling. It could have become the story of a weirdo or the worshipping of a self-centred primadonna, instead it is a totally humane account of a double struggle: a climbing struggle and a personal (intimate) struggle. For the envious climbers who only see the narcissistic aspect of it: watch it again after removing the 'climbing' and 'yourself' from the equation and you will finally see the value of this as a movie about a random topics. You will appreciate it a great deal. And by the way, there are endless shots of him actually climbing, so that as well can be enjoyed.
