About this movie

In the first part of the seventh and final adventure, Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort's immortality and destruction -- the Horcruxes. On their own, without the guidance of their professors or the protection of Dumbledore, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever. But there are Dark Forces in their midst that threaten to tear them apart. Meanwhile, the wizarding world has become a dangerous place for all enemies of the Dark Lord. The long-feared war has begun and Voldemort's Death Eaters seize control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and arresting anyone who might oppose them. But the one prize they still seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter. The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort...alive.

That you can't see what these books and movies have brought so many adults and children is beyond incomprehensible to me. This boy we've watched grow up and struggle with the same things ( for the most part) we all do ,makes courageous decisions, puts his life on the line for his friends, and basically embodies what every human being should be today. Shame on you all for picking it apart.

Part 1 of the epic climax to the Harry Potter franchise is a road movie without a doubt. This is the series' darkest film and is definitely not aimed for younger children. The cast is stunning and the magic keeps on getting darker and darker. It does take a much slower pace than any of the series' films before this and you want that before the end. Beautifully filmed, beautifully directed, great design, and wonderfully acted. Part 1 is a great set up for not only its second part but for the very end of the once in a lifetime franchise.

In what turns out to be a measured preamble to the finale, the first part of Deathly Hallows takes its time and lets us know that "yes, the finish is coming but this is not it." I'm still a little burned they decided to split the final story into a laborious two part finish but can't really fault the execution here or in the (truly) final installment. What is great about director Yates' previous two Potter pictures continues and deepens here to great effect in building to the climax.
