Reimagining Roald Dahl's beloved story for a modern audience, Robert Zemeckis's visually innovative THE WITCHES tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. The boy and his grandmother come across some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, so Grandma wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world's Grand High Witch (Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.

PRO: Un cast di ottimo livello, da Octavia Spencer a Stanley Tucci, fino a una Anne Hathaway che si diverte a giocare con l'immaginario delle streghe costruito da Zemeckis. Una prima parte che definisce molto bene tono e atmosfere della storia… CONTRO: … ma si lascia andare a un atto finale in cui ci si concentra soprattutto sul dinamismo e il divertimento puro, mettendo in secondo piano le suggestioni costruite in precedenza.

Contro la mia visione scettica ossia di percezione di filmetto fantasy stucchevole è giusto da guardare per far passare il tempo, la trama si presenta particolare e la storia scorrevole. Buona recitazione dei vari attori con nota di rilievo per Anne Hathawey e per Octavia Spencer. Consiglio di guardarlo in lingua originale

Fantastico, Anne Hathaway straordinaria, forse inadatto ai bambini perché gli effetti speciali sono un bel po' realistici. Grande black comedy!
