About this movie

Mary Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Academy Award® nominee Saoirse Ronan). Queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry and instead returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. By birth, she also has a rival claim to the throne of Elizabeth I (Academy Award® nominee Margot Robbie), who rules as the Queen of England. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty. Rivals in power and in love, the two Queens make very different choices about marriage and children. Betrayal, rebellion and conspiracies within each court imperil both Queens–driving them apart, as each woman experiences the bitter cost of power.

This should have "some parts are real however most of the movie is made up'. There are too many wrong things to list but1) Mary never spoke with a Scottish accent, she grew up in France from 5 years old 2) Rizzio her secretary was white not black but the director didn't want to direct an all white period piece 3) May & Elizabeth never met they only ever had contact through letters. There are many morebutits not enjoyable in the least

This film falls broadly into a genre now rampant on television that I call "Harlequin Romance History." Anachronistic on purpose, loosely and arbitrarily based on historical events with lots of political correctness and heaving bosoms.. The Tudors, Reign, and now this. This material is covered more faithfully and accurately in the Vanessa Redgrave 1971 "Mary, Queen of Scots." Watch that instead.

Little to do with the story and more to do with current political climate. it's a shame we have to be fed political garbage this way. We are all different and right within our own perspective, that's fine. I just don't think historical/any movies should be twisted for any agenda. If you want to see this story, the tv series Reign depicts it much more accurately and is fantastically done.
