About this movie

“We Are Your Friends” is about what it takes to find your voice. Set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife, an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole (Efron) spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James (Bentley), who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie (Ratajkowski). With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he is destined for.

Such an obvious attempt at pandering to the electronic music craze but it doesn't appeal to anyone who's a fan of EDM or the general public. It makes it look ridiculous, shallow, and a talentless art form so anyone who actually enjoys EDM is going to scoff at it, and people who don't like EDM are going to justify their hatred towards the scene with its "one track to fame and success" mentality and "press play" performances. Try again Hollywood, there's an opportunity in an EDM movie.

This movie takes every clichéd perception of Electronic music and wraps it into 90 minutes of ridiculousness. If there was ever a meme of it, you'll find it here. From the superstar DJ Jesus poses to the "one track" hopefuls (which, by the way, when our 'hero' finally gets to play his "hit" it is the most ridiculous concoction of silly noises sequenced over a generic kick drum -- is that really how people perceive this music?!), yep, it's all here. Want to waste a couple hours then feel awful about it?

I couldnt finish the preview. Typical millenial PC garbage. I suspect thats whos responsible for the good reviews. Earth to EDM, theres more to life than being a narcissitic consumer, partying and putting your head in the sand. Sure, the music is fun, but this movie is clearly puke in a bag.
