About this movie

In Mortal Kombat, MMA fighter Cole Young is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

Absolutely awful, the story felt rushed for a single movie and the characters were poor attempts from their actors. Sonya particularly was desperate for a dragon mark for most of the film and looked far too smug when she finally got one, not to mention it seemed like her power was just second nature and unlike the other characters needed a level of depth to achieve. Also the fact the soundtrack lacked the MK theme through most of the film was an absolute shame. Would recommend the originals!

Needed more villians like Subzero, who carried the film and best parts of the film and tone of scenes, film was missing the main boss, sixk of build ups we all seen the orginal just give us full battle armor Shao Kahn showing up laughing and scenes like Darkseid in Justice League going full on battle mode against the Gods of Greece. Couldn't give a toss about Johnny Cage.

Wasn't as bad as I had expected from reviews I had read. I haven't followed the games for about 20 years, so not too sure how accurate the characters and story are to the source material. The story did feel a bit rushed and I feel it could have been slowed down and extended over multiple films if done the right way. But I doubt this will get a sequel based on critic reviews, so I don't mind it was condensed into 1 film.
