About this movie

My Father’s Vietnam is the story of Peter Sorensen, and two men he served with, Loring Bailey and Glenn Rickert, who were killed fighting the Vietnam War. Peter Sorensen’s son, filmmaker Soren Sorensen, was only a child when he first visited the Vietnam Memorial on a family trip to Washington, DC in the mid-eighties. The sight of his father making pencil rubbings of two names, out of the more than 58,000 etched into the granite wall, remained in his mind well into adulthood when he decided it was time to have a serious conversation with his father about the War. Conversations with Peter Sorensen, and the friends and family members of two men he served with who were killed in Vietnam in 1970, give voice to the individuals who continue to silently carry the psychological burdens of a war that ended over 40 years ago. My Father’s Vietnam encourages audiences to broach the subjects of service and sacrifice with the veterans in their lives.
