When ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, his son Tim (Justice Smith) embarks on a journey to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds), a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world— they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Ryan Reynolds as pikachu is decent. Although his voice acting is great & has the attitude & boldness like pikachu, his voice does not fit pikachu's small cute fluffy appereance. This movie barely has the spirit and heart like the classic TV anime, But it's not true to it's source material. It does has it's comedic moments that tickles your funny bone, it also has comedic moments that are flat & dumb. The CGI special effects, green/blue screen effects, & visual effects are top-notch. As a mystery, it does have it's efforts to make it work. The first act pays little attention on the evidence, because it was pressured by the illogical rude humor, but as the film progresses, the genre of mystery rises up, step by step & even goes to a surprise. Of all the mystery films i've seen, this one is the most surprising & strongest so far. The movie has a very slick, & very firm screenplay. The performances from the cast is strong enough (depends on what there personalities & characterizations are). The message is as strong as it was trying to mimic reality of friendship. No matter how bad the mistake is, friends always stick together. & Some of the dialogue has to be cut out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Fact Pikachu and Mewtwo go at it is enough for me. Now, if only Nintendo and Gamefreak design and develop an actual game with similar art detail. Been a Pocket Monster fan since I was seven years old. Poket Monster trainer Red originally is an adult and so was trainer Blue. Then changed it for a more child friendly series. Hence why Poket Monster Green got redesigned do to the content being to dark. The same game, Red and Blue. That's how Ash Catchem was created. Gotta catch em all.

For people who think this is supposed to be based on the Pokemon games and anime: It's not. This movie is based on the Detective Pikachu game that released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. For reference, that game is the source material. That being said, the movie is incredibly accurate to its source material. In fact, it goes above and beyond when it comes to the story. The game normally ends on a bit of a weird point, where you find out who the main villain is, but not why he wanted to do anything or how anyone else was involved. The movie takes most of the areas about the game that were confusing and polishes them up, bringing the story to a proper close, unlike the source material. All in all, great movie.
