Ridley Scott manages to make an awesomely stunning visual experience from an amazingly poorly written story. The writers of this steaming pile of excrement really should have run it past anyone that had even heard of "sciency things". Or even better, some actual scientists. I'd be surprised if they even read it back to themselves the plot holes are that large. The characters are shallow, vapid and totally fail to be what they should be. The use of "futuristic technology", which would be totally excusable in this type of movie, was poorly utilised. Some of the futuristic tech was really well executed but the characters that have it... words fail me when it comes to trying to describe just how utterly useless the characters are without giving away the scenes. The story is full of fail. It actually makes the Matrix squeals look like masterpieces. The only saving grace is Ridley Scott. He was the director, not the writer. The story has potential, and a remake could save it. I'm a huge fan of the franchise. I'm disappointed that I ever saw this.

This is a decent scifi flick almost ruined by shoddy writing, and together with the Robin Hood remake (and butchering the intriguing original script for it) makes me think if perhaps Ridley Scott has lost his touch... Since a director of his level SHOULD be able to recognize a good original script (RH) and be able to say no to pointless script changes and vagueness (Prometheus). There are also more than a couple of scenes where Scott should've recognized how silly they were and come up with something better. The actors do the best they can, the music is decent, monsters are mostly cool (changing the Engineers into proto-humans instead of keeping the sort-of elephantine features the original Space Jockey of Alien had was dumb), the nods to the Alien franchise are fun to look for, but overall I expected far more from Scott than what he ultimately delivered. And considering his previous track record, I fully believe he should've been able to do better. Prometheus is fun, but a far cry from a potential classic. Hope the sequel does better!
