In postwar Germany in 1946, Rachael Morgan (Keira Knightley) arrives in the ruins of Hamburg to be reunited with her husband Lewis (Jason Clarke), a British colonel who’s rebuilding the city. Rachael learns they now share their home with a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) and his troubled daughter. In this charged setting, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.

Keira Knightley gives a numbing, bombshell turn as a woman whose emotional desolation at the loss of her son mirrors that which has been wreaked on WWII Hamburg by British airmen.
