About this movie

The director of Saw II, III, and IV presents a hair-raising psychological horror in the tradition of THE SHINING. Richard Vineyard (Stephen Moyer of TV's TRUE BLOOD) leads his family on a weekend getaway to the Wharton State Pine Barrens - home of the legendary Jersey Devil. The trip takes a dark turn when various forest animals wind up mysteriously mutilated and a teenage boy disappears from the campgrounds. As Richard falls violently ill and delusional, he starts to believe there is something stalking them - something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat. The family is soon fighting for their lives as the horrifying truth reveals itself in a shocking conclusion. Also starring Mia Kirschner (TV's VAMPIRE DIARIES) and Erik Knudsen (SAW II, SCREAM 4).

This isn't a horror movie, not in the true sense of the word, it's more of a dark drama with a grizzly twist and an excuse to make a film in a beautiful nature preserve. I didn't find it that frightening, but the acting was good, I liked the mother (Cynthia) a lot. This taps into primitive fears in a very matter of fact way (disease, madness, family strife, and the possibility that ancient prehistoric mammals still stalk remote areas). Could have done without cheesey opening song.
