From 1909 to 1949, Celie (Goldberg--Ghosts of Mississippi), a Southern Black woman, gradually gains self-respect as she strives to educate herself and to find love--despite an abusive spouse and a society biased against her race and her sex.

Haven't watched it in awhile but this is my 3,702nd time (ok, maybe not that many times) and I still cried tonight. I love this movie.

A beautiful story about the power of love and self respect, set in a time when most women of color were raised with little to none. If this movie doesn't make you cry, you have no heart.
