After teens who have mysteriously developed powerful new abilities are declared a threat and detained by the government, Ruby, one of the most powerful (Amandla Stenberg), escapes and joins a group of other runaway teens. But soon, these new allies realize they must wage a resistance against those who betrayed them in this adventurous film from the producers of Stranger Things.

Somehow this rates over 4 stars on Google Play, while all of the highlighted reviews are critical of the film. Likewise I found the film to be highly derivative and formulaic - there isn't anything here that you couldn't predict well before it actually happened. It follows the new teen flick script to the letter, so much so that it is frustrating to watch at times. Outside of the poor script the acting isn't too bad, but nothing stands out either. The effects aren't much, but not much was required. We're basically talking about a mediocre film in the genre with nothing that actually makes it standout from recent films. Everything has been done both better and worse...

Abnormally large plot hole. If these kids are the future they would not wish to wipe out humanity they would want to ensure its survival which means putting these kids in places were they wont harm each other or others and upon learning as much as possible they set up an education system. Does that mean one generation is basically forced to suffer yes but the knowledge there would help all following generations.

I had A LOT of hype for this movie, but after watching this movie. It leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. To be honest - it has good effects, world building, cast. I really thought it was going somewhere good but I felt the story was so rushed. The romance was really cringing and in poor taste. I really think they could have gone a better direction with the story and character building. I do sort of want a sequel to this movie - just cuz I really do like the story. (Hey twilight series was bad but they came out with 5 movies) if they do come out with another one - PLEASE BE BETTER
