Creepy creepy! This movie doesn't make any sense. A female who gave birth to a girl by cesarean section been told by the surgeon that there had been some complication during the procedure and found out she is hermaphrodite and they decided to remove the female part and gave her the male one instead. Where it gets weird is when she/he travel back in time you realize that the born child is her/him and the baby was conceive by her/him. he had sex with herself and later gave birth to her own self creepy creepy!!!!! How can you go back in time if you were not born in the first place it doesn't make any sense...so you want to tell me he went back in time to have sex with herself when he was still a female at the time she gave birth to herself.
You Already Knew It Was Bad Writers have tried the time travel thing in a lot of directions but it seldom works out because of the gaping holes in the story line. This movie is no different. Walk away now and nobody gets bored or lost in a hopelessly hard-to-understand tale. Think INCEPTION without all the cool special effects, but with more durable acting. Without giving too much of this film away, I will tell the interested reader that the reason why this movie is so bad is due to the fact that a writer is supposed to be the person doing all of the time travelling. I can stretch the limits of my science fiction imagination only so much.
Predestination is a movie that answers the age old questions of; 1) What happens if you go back in time to stop a serial killer and it turns out to be you, and 2) What happens if you literally go f@#k yourself. It is the classic tale of girl raised in an orphanage, girl meets boy, boy impregnates girl, boy disappears, girl has baby girl, boy steals baby girl and drops her off at an orphanage, Mom has a sex change and becomes a boy, Ex-Mom meets her adult daughter and falls in love with her., Ex-Mom impregnates his (her?) daughter. There is an interesting side story of girls being trained to be space hookers for male astronauts. It is a story that goes nowhere, but is infinitely more plausible than the plot of the movie. I can only conclude that this concept originated when someone was high, or mentally disturbed. It is a plot that would start with a drunk writer saying, "Wouldn't it be great if...." It would not.
I will keep this brief. Some people get scifi. Some people don't. I am one who does, and I enjoyed this movie. Having said that, the movie did not get the max like, because of its flaw. YOU CAN BE BORN A WOMAN AND BECOME A MAN. YOU CAN TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND MEET YOURSELF AND THEN HAVE SEX WITH YOURSELF. YOU CANNOT GET PREGNANT WITH YOURSELF! YOU CANNOT. AND THAT IS THE FLAW. If you are going to go this direction, you must explain how the timeline is altered to allow this happen in this manner. For this reason, I am annoyed with this movie, but overall loved it otherwise. It would have been a perfect movie if they had the child present as a differing character later met in the time stream, but this did not happen. I hope what I posit here makes sense. It ruined an otherwise decent movie. update - I got my explanation. "Free of time. Free of ancestry." It needed more explanation, but I understand it now.
one of the worst sci-fi movies The script just plays the time line without any logic or science supportive theory. Also there is no depth in any characters, and bend the main character's personality along with the absurd timeline without any cause or reason. Don't waste your time.
Nice narrow period time travel show. I'm an Ethan Hawke fan so I couldn't help but like this one too. This is well made and well acted. Very few characters but feels complete. I only gave it 4 stars because you could just about tell what was going to happen but what you thought was going to happen didn't quite go that way. Definitely compelling. The subtle sci-fi is really good. Similar to Loopers in that way. There's a scifi happening that isn't explained in great detail. I find too much explanation of the tech sometimes spoils the mystery of how it all works. Leave a little to the imagination. I have not heard of the producers/director before, but I definitely want to see more from these brothers.
My brain hurts. I am typically a fan of time travel movies and plot twists, but this movie messed with my mind in the most twisted way. Good luck figuring out this timeline. Reminds me of Memento, and Looper.
Whew... 30 mins into it I was already past my tolerance. Slow, boring, poorly acted. Terrible movie really.. Not sure at all how it has a 4 star rating. Whew... seriously really a waste of time... I give time travel movies a lot of leeway too.. and just couldn't find much love for this one at all.
Mind rape Two hours after watching this movie I laid in my bed still trying to comprehend it. I personally love a good time travel movie, and this one falls snuggly into that category. You'll watch the first half not having a clue whats going on, from there on the pieces start to fall in place. Even though it becomes ever so slightly predictable, you can't stop watching because you need the reassurance that what you think is going to happen... does happen. If time travel is your game, then why aren't you playing yet.
Exactly what you expect. The actors are convincing and fun to watch, but the the clues to the big reveal are heavy handed and you end up knowing exactly how the movie will end about halfway through. Even though the director has spoon fed you the "twist", he then feels the need to hit you over the head with not 1, or 2, but 3 big "reveals".
Great movie Speaks on many levels and makes u ask yourself are u where u want to b or could things have taken a different turn...movie should b 2 hours long in my opinion vs an hour and half. Set up took 56 minutes which was just too much time...movie action should have started 15 minutes into the movie but started like when the movie had 35 minutes left to go which was too short for the action. If I had to make this movie I would have started the action right away and cut off all that story telling part.
Wow! I'm easy to please. HORRIBLE. Tranny time travels to kill shimself, over and over and over. I've never been so grossed out at a pathetically boring storyline. Wow. I'm speechless. Worst movie I've ever seen. Don't waste a minute on it.
Too confusing This movie makes you work really hard to try to find out how it is but in my opinion you're just wasting your time i just want to see a movie I don't want to try to make sense of everything else but its too confusing if I would tell you the ending it wouldn't make sense I had to watch it 5 times to understand the ending and it still doesn't make sense to this day good luck I didn't like it
The paradox of all paradoxes (Disclaimer: I fully understood the plot.) The title should be Super-Paradox. I liked the focus on characters and time travel taking a back seat (to an extent). But, wow this plot had some glaring issues.
I ain't even mad. I watched this movie from the back seat of a bus, I could see the laptop screen from the guy in front of me. He had captions on. I never heard the movie but I still loved it. The plot takes a second to get going and then I proceeded to confuse me, but in the good way. The ending took a little thinking on my part but that is why it was so great. You should really watch it.
Interesting but not great There's a reason this went straight to video. Its interesting from the standpoint of the fact that its different than most sci-fi and the characters are interesting but overall it's not that memorable, nor is there any real big moments, you feel as if you are waiting for some big climax or epic moment to start but it never happens. Still it was an interesting concept dealing with time travel.
Chicken or the egg? This movie was extremely unafraid to stray from the norm and safe which I found refreshing. "What if I put the man who ruined your life in front of you, and guarantee you'd get away with it? Would you kill him"? First line in the movie sets the stage. This movie is about life choices just as much as it is about time travel probably more.
Predictable yet fun. I kind of had the plot figured out by about halfway through the movie. It's not one you'll be able to watch twice so rent instead of buy. It's a fun movie though and has interesting twists and turns. The acting is decent, the action pretty good and the ideas, although preposterous, thought provoking. I'd recommend it to any sci-fi buff. If all you're into is action, this movie will probably bore you.
Inevitable I'm surprised at how many people don't understand the point of the movie. this was a masterful retelling and expansion of the original science fiction story, but the time travel genre has been so abused that people think this is derivative. This is not a fast or flashy tale but if you want to enjoy the concept take the time to watch it.
A break from the norm I love sci-fi movies and was bored with the normal stuff. At first you will wonder if you are watching the same movie than what was in the trailer, but hang in there. The movie has a few twist and turns that will make you say "well that was different". In the end, it will leave you thinking, which is what a good sci-fi should do, just make sure you are paying attention.
Predestination Excellent movie. If you're a fan of time travel in any form like me than this is one I highly recommend. The world already has too many "realists" who don't like anything if it's not 100 percent based in reality. Let yourself go and watch this if "Doctor Who", "The Time Traveler's Wife" or "The Edge of Tomorrow" is your kind of thing. You won't regret it as the ending is somewhat surprising.
Reverse Grandfather Paradox done right. This film is really dark and twisted(perfect), the movie starts at a slow pace but it's hardly noticeable when admiring each beautiful shot. The story is captivating in it's own tragic ways, ****spoiler**** the twist is quiet predictable if you're fond of paradoxes, especially time travel paradoxes.
I have seen worse movies... I had the movie figured out very quickly. I called every plot twist long before they were revealed. If you don't see the very obvious twists, you might really like this movie.
Finally a good Sci-Fi movie The trailer doesn't do this movie justice, it's a thriller from start to finish. Hawke is amazing, reminds me of his Gattaca days, which if you haven't seen go watch it right now it's a classic. Anyway the movie isn't predictable like most Sci-Fi flicks these days and is really exciting to watch, worth a buy for sure.
Blown Away, Science Fiction at it's Best If you Like Sci-Fi and Your into Time Travel Movies You Just Might like this One, But Just to tell Ya it Gets a little Trippe. But, with a Compelling Story that will Keep You Glued to Your Seat. At Least I was from Beginning to End. Ethan Hawke was Amazing in his Performance in this Movie, and Sarah Snook was Awesome. She's an Excellent Actress, and She held Her own Beautifully. I was Blown Away, Nothing Like I Thought it Would be. But, Only Better than I Imagined.
Description reveals too much Loved the movie. Still thinking about it several days later. It's a weird one, for sure, but goes beyond just telling a fun story: it also solves problems with greater time travel theories and how time travel agencies can manipulate the continuum.

Based on a short story by the late Philip K. Dick this science fiction-thriller reflects the writer's familiar preoccupation with themes of concealed identity and mind control. Tom Cruise stars as John Anderton a Washington D.C. detective in the year 2054. Anderton works for "Precrime," a special unit of the police department that arrests murderers before they have committed the actual crime. Precrime bases its work on the visions of three psychics or "precogs" whose prophecies of future events are never in error. When Anderton discovers that he has been identified as the future killer of a man he's never met he is forced to become a fugitive from his own colleagues as he tries to uncover the mystery of the victim-to-be's identity. When he kidnaps Agatha (Samantha Morton) one of the precogs he begins to formulate a theory about a possible frame-up from within his own department. Directed by Steven Spielberg who hired a team of futurists to devise the film's numerous technologically advanced gadgets Minority Report co-stars Colin Farrell Max von Sydow and Neal McDonough.
