About this movie

This visual and musical masterpiece features Yul Brynner's Academy Award®-winning performance, an unforgettable Rodgers and Hammerstein® score, and brilliant choreography by Jerome Robbins. It tells the true story of an Englishwoman, Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr), who comes to Siam as schoolteacher to the royal court in the 1860's. Though she soon finds herself at odds with the stubborn monarch (Brynner), over time, Anna and the King stop trying to change each other and begin to understand one another.

I first saw The King and I when I was young on our black & white TV. Years later, I had the wonderful experience of seeing Yul Brynner on the Broadway stage in the 1980's. It was one of the most wonderful moments of my life. I will say that the play is very, very long. However, to see Brynner on the stage was a dream come true. I also had the honor to have gotten his autograph on the album that I got that night. It's framed and is one of my most favorite possessions. Rodgers & Hammerstein's music is wonderful still.

I gave this movie 5stars. However the viewer should be warned that this is a chopped up version of the original ie songs and scenes have been removed.I guess fox studios would rather cater to adhd type people than to lovers of classic movies in original form
