I honestly did not want to see this movie because of the aspect ratio & the Black & white format, but once I saw the trailer, did a little research, I knew I had to watch this movie. I can see why people might not like this movie but it is not as simple as regular movies. The story goes a little all over the place. It gets a bit hard to follow at a certain point but the end result was great. Isolation & madness are a dangerous mix. I did not know what to expect by the end since it kept going & changing over & over, who is who, what did he write. I don't want to spoil anything but this is a great Lovecraftian arthouse piece. It takes a lot of talent as actors & writers to pull of a movie with only "2" actors. There is a lot of talking & back & forth, but the tension between the 2 actors caries throughout the movie, even in scenes of friendship & comradery bloody fist fight is always near. "Now, Bark Like a Dog for Me!" -Woof woof woof...- "That's a good Lad, now lie down in that hole!"

100% an art house indie film. If you're not into those stay far away from this. Pattinson and Dafoe both give oscar worthy performances in this very strange, open to interpretation movie. It both needs and is worthy of multiple viewings. Movies with this kind of pacing and dread aren't made often anymore but as I've said before about similar films, definitely not for everyone.
Hated it. Great acting and visuals but the story just kept going in circles. I should have known I hated the witch too. I'm shocked by the overwhelmingly positive reviews I usually agree with the critics but definelty do not here. Again in my eyes it had huge potential but I found the story lacking.
