The movie is pretty accurate and realistic. Probably one of the most accurate space films (esp. multi-million films) to date. And they made it fun too. The technology is near future, so pretty realistic. Maybe there is slight inaccuracies, but acceptable. My only certain inaccuracy is Mars won't bury the whole Pathfinder (Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter can still image the Viking Landers after ~40 years). But it's ok, still like the movie.

After reading the book, I was really looking fwd to this movie. There was so much ingenuity and lighthearted self conversation (self log). However, the movie left me wanting so much more! The change in the ending did nothing enhance the lack of struggle Mark overcame. I would have loved to see more about the rover reconfigure and how he got all the necessary life support on board the awe / boredom of the trip etc... overall... cool, but lacking.

I bought the un-extended edition which now i deeply regret. Make no mistake, the movie and the special effects were good. But, given mutt demon's politics that he just can't help keeping to himself and needs to shove it everyone's throats, I am not wasting a single cent on this.
