This movie kept you thinking. A typical killer mystery, but with a twist of history. I have always been a Poe fan, but for some reason I felt this was not what Poe would talk or act like, but maybe I am wrong. Who knows... Anyway, off topic. When it comes down to it, it is not the best thriller movie, but just watch it and you'll be very amused with the twists and turns. I really enjoyed myself.

Everything I would hope for in a period film inspired by Poe. Romantic but not too over the top, great atmosphere. Warning: may appeal more to people who appreciate cozy mysteries, this isn't a 21st century forensic crime, nor is it especially gruesome horror, and you must remember, some mystery cliches began with Poe...take it for what it is: Poe fan fiction.

Nope. John Cusack is not Edgar Alan Poe and he made this movie to prove it. This may have been a good movie with just about any other actor. Cusack just shows up and repeats his quirky performance over and over again. He doesn't have the flexibility required to play a genius writer. Not even close.
