About this movie

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer, lost to her when she was barely a teen. Now 21 and struggling to make her way in the world, Lara is determined to forge her own path rather than take the reins of her father's global empire...so even she can't understand what drives her to solve the puzzle of his mysterious death. Going explicitly against her dad's final wishes, Lara leaves the familiar streets of London in search of a mythical island -- which may or may not exist -- somewhere off the coast of Hong Kong. With her life threatened at every turn and with no training or experience to fall back on, Lara's sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit are the only weapons she’ll have on this non-stop, action-packed, trial-by-fire adventure into the unknown.

Probably the best attempt at translating the Tomb Raider franchise to the big screen. The plot seems to borrow heavily from the game that rebooted the franchise, but unfortunately inherits some of the problems of the reboot. The film spends a long time and the start depicting a Lara attempting to escape her father's wealth and responsibilities and live a relatively normal life, but once getting shipwrecked on the Japanese island she quickly escalates to being generally fine with murdering bad guys, with little pause for actual character development. I feel this is generally a problem with how the franchise reboot depicts Lara. Vikander performs competently as Lara, and is probably a good match for this Lara's arc, but I'd have preferred Square Enix had stuck with the Legends arc for the games and this movie. The chief villain in this film is also remarkably one-dimensional and gets very little character development. Set and trap design is fairly good, but still no Last Crusade. All-in-all, the film is competent and an enjoyable action flick. But the beginning of the film drags, the plot is merely okay. I can't say there's much here to excite fans of the game series.

Not the best or well passed and focused start and not enough character development but still has a good story and even though the story telling could have been much better it is ok. It did much better than other franchises trying to make a movie out of a game. Still it is based on a game and that's where they made their critical mistake that caused the rest of the mistakes. Apart from those mistakes it has good visuals and a couple cool scenes. The most disappointing thing about the movie is focusing on Lara's city life and bringing in too many characters with basic story lines. If I was the. Director I would not make the Villan so basic and actually give him more story, more depth and more human as he is just a tipical bad guy with basic desires and he doesn't stand out at all. It is worth a rent if u have some cash to blow and some time to spare. It will not be a adventure but will keep u entertained. Also watch out for the crazy horrible camera work at the start and on the starting fight scenes (their confusing).

Average at best but definitely betta than any Tomb Raider that has come before it. Corny action and acting and your typical over the top action flick where an unskilled lead takes out multiple mercs with a bow and defys countless life ending situations to lead to an unresolved ending that suggests a sequel at some point....I guess it's worth a watch if you like the Tomb Raider saga but if not, I'd skip it
