About this movie

Disney and Pixar's "Turning Red" introduces Mei Lee (voice of Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother's dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming (voice of Sandra Oh), is never far from her daughter-an unfortunate reality for the teenager. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren't enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically ALWAYS), she "poofs" into a giant red panda! Directed by Academy Award® winner Domee Shi (Pixar short "Bao") and produced by Lindsey Collins. Some flashing lights sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.

Not one of Pixar's greatest but definitely one of their most unique works thus far. I very much look forward to what else Domee Shi will have in store for the future. Regarding all the unfair criticism about this movie's metaphors; please grow up. As children grow up, their gonna develop their own personal beliefs and opinions that aren't gonna necessarily align with yours. It's just a matter of life. Same goes for periods, its completely natural and should be discussed with children beforehand.

I watched it to personally investigate dislike bandwagon. Insignificant when disregarding vilification of cringe. We cringe at the second hand embarassment for the main character and hopefully empathize while acknowleding our own cringe. The MC compensates by being an overachiever, fulfilling expectations of overbearing mother. MC lives a double life for home and school, both of which merge w/Red Panda spiritual transformation. Parallel conflict of identity and spiritual separation can be drawn.
