This is an exceedingly well written, passionately acted, and tautly directed movie. However, it follows in the tradition of "A Man Called Horse" and "Dances with Wolves" by serving out all the principle roles to white folks with Indian people once again taking the parts as their satellites. The now fully matured Graham Green nevertheless proves that he is capable of stealing a scene or two despite the unlevel playing field.

There's no depth to this one. Pacing is all over the place. A cowboy mumbles some shallow musings about ruggedness while assisting in a completely straightforward murder investigation. The only thrills come from the abrupt action sequences, the last of which is itself abruptly interrupted by an awkwardly placed flashback rape scene. Our cowboy hero is then abruptly teleported to the top of a mountain where he panders to the audience with some quick frontier justice.
