Cam Harrison, a young journalist travels with his ailing niece, Elle to Mississippi in search of the magical healing potion that has been sweeping the nation. In his journey he discovers a traveling circus claiming to have a real live Mermaid. Intrigued by what could be, but filled with suspicion over the Mermaids validity, Cam travels to the Circus with Elle. There they discover not only that the Mermaid is real, but that she is being held captive by the evil circus leader Locke, as she is the key behind the magical potion. Cam and Elle develop a growing friendship with the Mermaid and so does a plan to free her. But in order to do so, they must figure out how to get past Locke and his evil sidekick.

This is a really wonderful, beautiful, and fantastic mermaid film. to me, it's one of the best mermaid film like Aquamarine (film), Splash, and The little Mermaid (1989, Disney Animated). I love it from the mermaid (Elizabeth) and Elle, for how devotedly obsessed she is with Elizabeth. Including how loving and caring she is for her as well. Plus, that Elle is sort of a mermaid herself.

people need to give it a chance. yes, it's the same name as the Disney version, but it's actually a different and good story.

I definitely like the cartoon Disney version better because it has a less complicated story and a better ending
