About this movie

Taking fatherly advice is not in Joe Coughlin’s nature. Instead, the WWI vet is a self proclaimed anti-establishment outlaw, despite being the son of the Boston Police Deputy Superintendent. Joe’s not all bad, though; in fact, he’s not really bad enough for the life he’s chosen. Unlike the gangsters he refuses to work for, he has a sense of justice and an open heart, and both work against him, leaving him vulnerable time and again—in business and in love. Driven by a need to right the wrongs committed against him and those close to him, Joe heads down a risky path that goes against his upbringing and his own moral code. Leaving the cold Boston winter behind, he and his reckless crew turn up the heat in Tampa. And while revenge may taste sweeter than the molasses that infuses every drop of illegal rum he runs, Joe will learn that it comes at a price.

Powerful and intriguing story, production value was good. Character development was good. Ben isn't my favorite actor and I believe Batman and straight talking gangster fall within his lack of ability to act, because he doesn't have to act to play these parts, director says "be stoic" and Ben has that in spades! Lol

Good movie. I enjoyed watching. Wasnt bored. Didn't even check my phone which is an accomplishment for someone with ADD. My mind is always going from one thing to the next if it can sucked into one thing and stay there then it must be special.

America did this movie an injustice, though the country was burn out on gangsta films at the time of this release.... Ben Affleck built a beautiful piece executed it well cast it decently and finished it with class. It shows a man has to live for something and be willing to die for it and the people who get you there. An American with loyal friends kills a connected Irishman, and the Mafia everytime.
