As the sole person tending his farm, Alexandre (Philippe Noiret) spends his days exhaustively carrying out the numerous and varied tasks needed to keep everything running. However, the only reason Alexandre works so unrelentingly is because his wife (Françoise Brion) never lets him have a moment's rest. If it were up to Alexandre, he would spend his days forever lazing in bed -- which is exactly what he does, after his wife meets an untimely end.
